Conservation & Preservation Unit

The Conservation & Preservation Unit plans, oversees and coordinates a comprehensive preservation program for the care of the MSU Libraries' collections to ensure their continued use and access.

The Conservation & Preservation Unit contains the following units:

Services and activities in the preservation program include:

  • conservation of books, maps and other paper-based items
  • disaster preparedness planning and response
  • deacidification
  • reformatting
  • rehousing
  • binding
  • environmental monitoring
  • staff and user education

The preservation program also works with the Digital Initiatives Division to coordinate preservation activities with the Libraries' digital collection.
