Story and Poetry Submission Requirements

Authors may submit up to five original stories of 8500 characters maximum, or poems of 7000 characters maximum, including spaces.

Please limit submissions to one story, one short essay, or up to five poems. Poems must be submitted separately.  For example, if you are submitting five poems, each poem must be uploaded individually. Each submission should include a short biography directly beneath the work.

Please do not submit previously published work for themed issues.

Please do not submit additional works until the editorial team responds to your initial submissions. Stories must be fictional or deal with historical or biographical topics in a literary manner. All stories dealing with news or history, that are journalistic, biographical, articles, or essays, or pastiches of current events will not be accepted or published. Submitted fiction may otherwise be of any genre, including but not limited to drama, romance, science fiction, etc. Pornographic or erotic texts are not allowed.

The author should clearly indicate how they would like to be credited on their work. By submitting an original work, the author consents to have the author’s name appear on the work in print and electronic formats. MSU affiliates making submissions to the Short Édition project agree to share their work and waive any privacy rights granted by FERPA or any other law, policy or regulation, with respect to this work, for the purpose of publication.
